The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has announced the list of prequalified developers for its sixth round of solar and wind energy projects. A total of 4,500 megawatts (MW) of clean energy capacity is set to be added to the national grid through these projects.
Four solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects totaling 3,000 MW and one wind IPP project of 1,500 MW are a part of the tender. The solar projects are located in various provinces, including Najran, Jizan, and Hail. The prequalified developers will compete for these projects, which include the Najran Solar PV IPP, Samtah Solar PV IPP, Ad Darb Solar PV IPP, and As Sufun Solar PV IPP.
Several consortiums and standalone companies have been prequalified for the solar tenders. These include Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and JERA NEX, Alfanar Company and Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), and EDF Renouvelables and China Power Engineering Consulting Group International Engineering Co. Other prequalified companies include Jinko Power (HK) Company, Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and Marubeni Corporation.
SPPC has a track record of completing renewable energy projects in the Kingdom. Some of its recent notable projects include the 300 MW Sakaka Solar PV IPP, the 400 MW Dumat Al Jandal Wind IPP, and the 1,500 MW Sudair Solar PV IPP. Additionally, the company has also developed the 50 MW Waad Al Shamal Solar PV IPP and the 20 MW Layla Solar PV IPP.
The SPPC’s efforts to increase renewable energy capacity are part of the Kingdom’s broader strategy to diversify its energy mix and reduce its carbon footprint.
