Three new energy facilities will be constructed in Namangan, Uzbekistan. These projects, with a combined investment of US$1.1 billion, encompass the development of hydroelectric and solar power infrastructure.
Led by Uzbekhydroenergo, a cascade of six hydroelectric power stations along the Naryn River in the Uychi district will enhance the region’s energy capacity by 228 megawatts. Simultaneously, German company Hyper Partners GmbH and Tepelen Group Holding Limited from the UAE are set to build two solar power plants in Pap district, collectively contributing 1 gigawatt of solar energy to the region.
These initiatives underscore Uzbekistan’s strategic emphasis on diversifying its energy portfolio and reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels. The commencement of these projects will bring promising economic prospects for the region, as the construction phase alone is expected to generate employment for approximately 4,000 individuals, with an additional 133 permanent positions anticipated upon the completion of the hydroelectric power stations.
Furthermore, the solar power plants are projected to create 120 permanent jobs, providing a significant boost to local employment opportunities. As Uzbekistan continues to prioritize sustainable development, these initiatives not only contribute to the nation’s energy security but also stimulate economic growth and job creation in Namangan and surrounding areas. At the ceremony, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev symbolically pressed the button and launched the construction of these significant energy projects.
“Creating conditions for the prosperous life of our people is one of the main principles of the policy of New Uzbekistan. For this, it is extremely important to launch projects on time, ensuring continuous energy supply for their sustainable operation. Today’s event is of historical significance, and I congratulate everyone on new projects and initiatives,” noted Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s active involvement in the ceremonial launch underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives. Looking ahead, with plans to integrate electricity storage systems and expand solar and wind energy infrastructure, Uzbekistan is poised to further solidify its position as a regional leader in renewable energy adoption.
Through collaborative efforts between government entities, private enterprises, and international partners, Uzbekistan is charting a path towards a greener, more sustainable future while addressing the pressing challenges of energy security and climate change mitigation.
