Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, participated in the inauguration of three renewable energy projects in Uzbekistan. The projects are managed by ACWA Power.
The new energy projects include the Bash and Dzhankeldy Wind Power Plants, which have a combined capacity of 1,000 MW. These wind plants are connected to the electricity grid to provide clean energy. Another project is the Samarkand Solar 1 and 2 projects, with a total solar capacity of 1,000 MW and a 1,000 MWh battery energy storage system. Additionally, the Tashkent Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project will deliver 500 MWh of storage capacity.
Abdulaziz bin Salman highlighted the partnership between Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan. He noted how economic cooperation, particularly in energy, has grown under Saudi Vision 2030 and Uzbekistan Strategy 2030. Both strategies focus on renewable energy, economic diversification, and sustainable development.
Since the start of the partnership between ACWA Power and Uzbekistan, four projects worth $3 billion have been completed. The company also has ongoing projects in Uzbekistan valued at $15 billion. In Saudi Arabia, ACWA Power recently developed the Sudair Solar Power Plant, with an installed capacity of 1,500 MW. In Uzbekistan, the company also developed the Sirdarya Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Project with a capacity of 1,500 MW.
The collaboration between the two nations shows an effort to increase investments in clean energy. Both countries continue to develop projects to meet growing energy needs and switch to renewable energy sources.
