The UAE Ministry of Defence and Masdar, a key player in renewable energy, have entered into a significant partnership aimed at accelerating sustainable energy infrastructure in Abu Dhabi. Through this collaborative effort, the two entities are set to spearhead the development of multiple solar plants across the region. This strategic move underscores a concerted push towards renewable energy adoption and signifies the UAE’s proactive stance in addressing climate change challenges.
Facilitated by the joint venture Emerge, a collaboration between Masdar and France’s EDF Group, the partnership seeks to deliver comprehensive solutions for the solar projects. Emerge will oversee the entire lifecycle of the initiatives, providing expertise in finance, design, procurement, construction, and operations, with a commitment to maintenance spanning 25 years. Such a comprehensive approach underscores the seriousness with which the UAE intends to tackle sustainability and underscores its determination to transition towards renewable energy sources.
The signing ceremony, held at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, bore witness to the participation of prominent figures including Major General Sheikh Ahmad Bin Tahnoon Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan and Dr Sultan Al Jaber. Noteworthy signatories included Brigadier General Saeed Al Ketbi from the UAE Ministry of Defence and Abdulaziz Alobaidli, serving as the Chief Operating Officer of Masdar and Chairman of Emerge. With the agreement solidified, the UAE reinforces its commitment to the landmark Climate Change Strategy, launched during COP28, which aims to curtail carbon emissions and promote sustainability within the UAE Armed Forces. This initiative not only underscores the nation’s leadership in renewable energy adoption but also positions it as a global trailblazer in climate action.
