The United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed an investment agreement with the State of Rajasthan, India, to explore renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 60 GW. The agreement focuses on three types of energy sources: solar power, wind power, and hybrid energy projects. These projects will be developed in western Rajasthan, an area known for its potential in renewable energy due to its geographic conditions. The memorandum was signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary of Industries for Rajasthan.
The 60 GW capacity will consist of a mix of large-scale solar farms, wind farms, and hybrid systems that combine both technologies. Hybrid systems, which integrate both solar and wind power, are being considered to maximize energy production efficiency in the region.
Mohamed Alsuwaidi stated, “Meeting tomorrow’s energy needs through sustainable and renewable methods is essential. The UAE remains at the forefront of an ambitious diversification agenda, with energy transition as a key pillar. This project highlights our unwavering commitment to advancing clean energy solutions. Rajasthan, with its favourable climate and vast landmass, offers the ideal environment for this initiative, serving as a testing ground for innovative technologies that will shape the future of energy.”
Shri Ajitabh Sharma commented, “India is steadfast in its commitment to a sustainable energy future, and partnerships like this one with the UAE playing a crucial role in achieving our goals. By leveraging Rajasthan’s natural advantages, this project will not only accelerate our energy transition but also serve as a model for innovation in renewable energy.”
The UAE plans to invest $163 billion by 2050 as part of its Energy Strategy, aiming for 50% of its energy from clean sources. India aims to reduce carbon intensity by 45% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.
