Trinasolar has announced a partnership with AMEA Power to supply 300MWh of its Elementa 2 platform for the Abydos Battery Energy Storage Project in Aswan, Egypt. The project is part of a larger solar initiative and is the first in Egypt to incorporate a utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS).

The Abydos Solar PV Project, developed by AMEA Power, is expanding an existing 500MW solar power plant in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate. The addition of a 300MWh energy storage system aims to improve grid stability and support renewable energy use in the region.

The project was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by Egypt’s Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, along with representatives from Trinasolar and AMEA Power.

This marks Trinasolar’s first energy storage project in the Middle East and Africa. The company’s Elementa 2 platform, featuring lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, offers safety features, advanced fire suppression systems, and efficient thermal management. The technology is designed to reduce maintenance costs while improving energy storage performance.

AMEA Power Chairman Hussain Al Nowais emphasized the project’s role in supporting renewable energy in Egypt. Energy China ZTPC, which contributed to the project, stated that the 500MW solar plant is now operational. The Abydos project represents an effort to integrate solar energy with storage solutions, helping to stabilize the power grid and reduce outages. It is the first large-scale energy storage system in North Africa and highlights efforts to transition toward sustainable energy in the region.
