Saudi Arabia-based global utility firm ACWA Power has got the go-ahead for the commercial operation for Group 2 of the Sudair solar photovoltaic Independent Power Plant (IPP) project in Sudair Industrial City.
Sudair Solar PV is poised to become one of the largest single-contracted solar PV plants in the world and the largest of its kind in Saudi Arabia at an installed capacity of 1,500 MW. First project under The Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) renewable energy programme, the project has recorded the second lowest cost globally for Solar PV electricity production [USD 1.239 cents/kwh].
Group 2, which represents a 25% capacity augmentation when compared to Group 1, has now been set into operation. This has rose the total capacity in commercial operation to 1125 MW. The project worth $906.5 million reached commercial closure in the third quarter of 2021.
