South Korea’s Korea Western Power (KOWEPO) has teamed up with Electricite de France (EDF), a state electric utility company based in Paris, to launch a solar power venture in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This collaboration marks a strategic move in the realm of renewable energy infrastructure development.
The project entails the construction of a robust solar power generation infrastructure in Al Khazna, UAE, with completion scheduled for 2027. Once operational, the facilities will be managed for a duration of 30 years. KOWEPO assumes a pivotal role in this endeavor, spearheading the engineering, procurement, construction, and subsequent operations and maintenance of the solar power infrastructure.
This initiative not only signifies a landmark partnership between KOWEPO and EDF but also underscores a broader ambition to expand clean energy projects across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The company is eyeing potential ventures in countries such as Oman and Kuwait. Notably, KOWEPO and EDF-Renewables have previously secured contracts for noteworthy solar power projects in Oman and the UAE, indicating a trajectory of progressive engagement in the region’s renewable energy landscape.
Seo Gyu-seok, Vice President of KOWEPO’s business division, articulated the company’s strategic vision, emphasizing its wealth of experience in the Middle East market. With unwavering support from governmental entities, KOWEPO aims to deliver successful outcomes for the Al Khazna project and subsequent endeavors.
