SolarWadi, a renewable energy developer in Oman, has partnered with Nafath Energy, an Omani EPC contractor, to construct a solar power plant at the Arab Open University (AOU) in Muscat. The agreement follows recent renewable energy developments in Oman, including the Ibri II Solar Project, with an installed capacity of 500 MW, and the Amin Solar Plant, which has a capacity of 105 MW.

The solar power plant at the university is expected to generate more than 2 GWh of clean energy annually. This output will help reduce the university’s carbon emissions and decrease its dependence on traditional power sources. The project is part of Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on sustainable energy and reducing carbon emissions. Once operational, the solar plant will provide energy savings for the university and contribute to national decarbonization goals.

Waleed al Hallaj, Head of Business Development MENA for Amarenco, a shareholder of SolarWadi, said, “the project demonstrates the role of renewable energy in supporting Oman’s clean energy plans.” He added that “Oman’s solar resources can help lower carbon emissions while increasing energy independence.”

The new solar plant shows the role of local companies and technologies in developing renewable energy solutions. The collaboration between SolarWadi and Nafath Energy is expected to support the growth of clean energy in the country while meeting the energy needs of institutions like AOU.

The project’s completion will make AOU one of the institutions in the region using renewable energy to meet its power requirements. This initiative aligns with global efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. SolarWadi and Nafath Energy’s partnership reflects a focus on utilizing Oman’s renewable energy potential for sustainable development. The solar plant is expected to begin operations in the coming months.
