Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power firm has signed an agreement with Uzbekistan to implement an 800 megawatts renewable energy and integrated green hydrogen project.
As per the reports, the signing of the agreement came after a meeting between Saudi Arabia’s energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and the deputy prime minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kochkarov in Riyadh. Both the nations discussed ways to further strengthen joint cooperation between the two countries in various fields of energy.
Prince Abdulaziz and Kochkarov also witnessed the signing of an agreement to implement an 800 megawatts renewable energy and integrated green hydrogen project.
It may be noted that to foster renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan ACWA Power has committed to investing $2.5 billion in green projects in Uzbekistan. The agreements include Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Projects: Development of three solar PV projects in Tashkent and Samarkand. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): Implementation of three BESS in Tashkent, Bukhara, and Samarkand. These projects will add 1.4 GW of additional renewable energy capacity and 1.5 GWh of battery storage capacity.
Uzbekistan aims to generate 35% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, with 10,000 MW from solar and 5,000 MW from wind power. In the field of green hydrogen and ammonia, ACWA Power has also signed various agreements to develop a green hydrogen facility and a green ammonia pilot project in Uzbekistan.
