Saudi Arabia’s National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) has signed an agreement with SAL Logistics Services to conduct a study on energy efficiency. The study will evaluate SAL facilities to implement energy-saving solutions. This agreement was signed during the Saudi Green Initiative Forum and the COP16 Conference in Riyadh.
The study will include on-site surveys and a technical assessment to improve energy use and reduce carbon emissions. Since its establishment in 2017, Tarshid has reported annual energy savings of 7.3 terawatt-hours (TWh) as of the third quarter of 2024. These savings are equivalent to conserving 11.7 million barrels of oil and avoiding 4.2 million metric tons of carbon emissions.
In addition to this agreement, Saudi Arabia has been focusing on renewable energy projects. Two major projects recently completed are the Jeddah Solar Plant and the Sudair Solar Plant. The Jeddah Solar Plant has a capacity of 300 megawatts, contributing to the country’s renewable energy goals. The Sudair Solar Plant, one of the largest in the region, has a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts and is expected to supply energy to thousands of homes.
These projects reflect Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to shift toward renewable energy sources and increase energy efficiency across sectors. The agreement with SAL Logistics Services aligns with this strategy by introducing methods to optimize energy consumption. The technical study at SAL facilities will aid in determining how renewable energy and efficiency measures can be integrated into logistics operations. Tarshid’s role in this collaboration includes identifying ways to manage energy more effectively while reducing environmental impact.
