IRSC for Renewable Energy Solutions has signed a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Arabian Cement Company (ACC) in Arabia, Egypt. Under the agreement, IRSC will develop, finance, build, own, and operate the second phase of ACC’s solar power plant. The plant will have a total installed capacity of 17.6 megawatts peak (MWp) and is expected to generate 32.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually.
IRSC will handle financing, installation, operation, and maintenance of the plant. The solar power system will supply electricity to ACC without the need for upfront capital investment. ACC operates a cement production facility in Suez Governorate, which produces five million tons of cement annually.
Arabia has several renewable energy projects in operation. The Sakaka Solar Power Plant in Saudi Arabia has an installed capacity of 300 MW and supplies power to the national grid. The Dumat Al Jandal Wind Farm, with a capacity of 400 MW, provides electricity through long-term agreements.
Apart from large-scale projects, smaller renewable energy initiatives are being developed. The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu has introduced rooftop solar installations at government buildings. These projects reduce reliance on conventional electricity sources.
The Saudi Green Initiative has implemented solar-powered water desalination projects in coastal areas. One such project in Neom uses a small-scale solar desalination system to provide fresh water for local communities.
In Egypt, the Industrial Development Authority has launched a solar energy program for industrial zones. Some factories in 10th of Ramadan City have installed solar panels with a combined capacity of 10 MW to reduce electricity costs.
The New Administrative Capital has installed 20 MW of rooftop solar panels on government buildings. Some public transport stations in Cairo and Alexandria have added solar-powered lighting and charging stations for electric buses.
