Qatar’s General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has announced the commencement of registrations for the 11th edition of its National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, known as Tarsheed. This initiative, spearheaded by Kahramaa’s Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, aims to inspire innovation and sustainable practices among government entities, private sectors, individuals, researchers, and students.
The programme features 12 distinct competitions, each designed to promote the rationalization of electricity and water consumption across various sectors. Participants are encouraged to implement projects that enhance efficiency and contribute to environmental sustainability. Registration is open on Kahramaa’s official website from now until the end of September 2024.
Key competitions include the Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition, which recognizes buildings employing best practices in electricity and water usage reduction, thereby minimizing carbon emissions. Categories range from residential to commercial and industrial buildings, aiming to foster widespread awareness and adoption of conservation practices.
Another notable competition, the Best Building Retrofitting, encourages entities to upgrade existing buildings with energy-efficient technologies like LED lighting and water-saving devices, ensuring improved sustainability.
The Best Sustainable Building Design competition promotes awareness of conservation principles among architects, consultants, and contractors, advocating for eco-friendly building designs that minimize environmental impact.
In the realm of technology, Kahramaa has introduced the Best Smart Solution in the Field of Sustainability and Energy Efficiency competition, aimed at promoting interactive applications that educate and engage users on energy conservation.
Additionally, competitions such as the Best Water Recycling Initiative and the Best Project in Renewable Energy seek to innovate solutions for water conservation and renewable energy usage, aligning with global sustainability goals.
For younger participants, Tarsheed offers the Tarsheed Short Story Competition for School Students, encouraging creative expressions on energy and water conservation practices.
The programme also includes opportunities for school students to showcase their research through the Best School Project on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency, focusing on solutions aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Furthermore, to promote electric vehicle adoption, Kahramaa has launched a competition for the Highest Electric Vehicle User, encouraging community engagement in sustainable transportation practices.
Participants interested in any of the competitions can visit the Tarsheed page on Kahramaa’s official website for detailed information, registration guidelines, and competition criteria.
