India and Qatar are deepening their relationship with a strong emphasis on clean energy collaboration, marking a new chapter in their bilateral ties. Ambassador Vipul highlighted these advancements in an interview with Gulf Times, emphasizing the growing partnership between the two nations.

Ambassador Vipul noted the robust trade between India and Qatar, which currently stands at $16 billion annually. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent successful visit to Qatar, where discussions covered key areas such as politics, trade, energy, and investment with Qatar’s top leaders, including His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

A significant milestone in their collaboration is India’s agreement to import 7.5 million tonnes of LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) annually from Qatar starting in 2028. This move extends their longstanding partnership in energy, with Qatar already supplying 45% of India’s total LNG imports. Additionally, a recent agreement ensures that Haldia Petrochemicals will receive 2 million tonnes of Naphtha from QatarEnergy.

Ambassador Vipul also highlighted Qatar’s substantial investments in India, particularly in firms like Reliance and Adani Green, showcasing the strong economic ties between the two countries. He emphasized the positive impact of people-to-people cooperation on bilateral relations.

Looking forward, Ambassador Vipul stressed both nations’ commitment to exploring new opportunities in clean energy. “As the world moves towards cleaner technologies, we are focusing on renewable energy collaborations,” he stated. Current initiatives include partnerships in renewable energy projects, with ongoing efforts between Qatar and Adani Green already underway.

The ambassador outlined future areas of focus such as technology, artificial intelligence, startups, and food security, aligning with Qatar’s priorities and India’s sustainability efforts. “Our aim is to strengthen existing collaborations and develop new partnerships that benefit both countries,” Ambassador Vipul affirmed.

India and Qatar’s evolving relationship underscores their shared commitment to economic cooperation and technological innovation. With a strong foundation in energy cooperation and an increasing focus on clean energy solutions, both nations are poised to seize new opportunities in renewable energy for mutual prosperity.
