Egypt’s push for renewable energy has been ongoing for several years, with a focus on reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels. As part of this effort, Onasolar, an Egyptian solar energy company, has been working on several solar energy projects. The company’s current projects, totaling 144 megawatts, are expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2025 boosting middle east target of net zero emissions.
One of the projects is a 4-megawatt solar installation at Cairo Airport, which will be implemented across seven buildings, including lounges, garages, and warehouses. The project is expected to be completed by June 2025. Onasolar is also working on a 100-megawatt solar power station for the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity in West Sohag. The project is expected to be fully operational in the first half of 2025.
Additionally, Onasolar has secured a 40-megawatt solar station project in the Wadi El Natrun area, intended for an agricultural investment project spanning 37,000 acres. This project is slated to be completed by December 2024 and will be connected to Egypt’s national electricity grid. Onasolar has previously worked on several large-scale projects in Egypt, including a 300-megawatt solar project in Aswan for the Alcazar company.
The company is also targeting new projects with capacities ranging from 500 to 1,000 megawatts in partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity. Onasolar aims to sell electricity at competitive tariffs upon commercial operation.
