The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MoHUP) in Oman has signed a contract with Hasa Energy, a provider of energy efficiency services and decarbonisation solutions. The contract is for energy services performance company (ESCO) work.
Riyab Salim Moosa al Mayahi, General Director of Social Housing and Projects at MoHUP, and Eng Muatasam al Aulaqi, Chairman of Hasa Energy, signed the agreement. The signing took place at the Green Build Oman 2024 Conference.
Oman has been working to increase its use of renewable energy. The country aims to generate 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Recent projects include the Ibri II Solar Independent Power Project, the Manah I and II Solar Independent Power Projects, and the Dhofar Wind Power Project.
The Ibri II Solar Independent Power Project is a 500-megawatt solar power plant. The Manah I and II Solar Independent Power Projects will have a combined capacity of 1,000 megawatts. The Dhofar Wind Power Project is a 50-megawatt wind farm.
The energy efficiency industry in the GCC has an estimated market size of RO 900 million. Oman’s Vision 2040 includes goals for sustainability. The goals focus on energy-efficiency retrofits, renewable energy solutions, and smart building technologies in government buildings.
Oman’s government has set goals for reducing energy consumption. The country is working to increase its use of renewable energy. This project is part of those efforts. The contract between MoHUP and Hasa Energy is Oman’s work towards its sustainability goals. The project will focus on reducing energy consumption in government buildings and promoting the use of renewable energy.
