Oman has launched a competitive process for five new Wind Independent Power Projects (Wind IPPs Projects). Aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and its commitment to attaining Net Zero by 2050, Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP) has initiated the Request for Qualification (RFQ) for these projects, signaling a pivotal moment in the nation’s transition towards clean and efficient power generation.
These projects are located across Oman, encompassing a range of capacities and anticipated operational timelines. From the Jalan Bani bu Ali Wind IPP to the Sadah Wind IPP, each endeavor promises to contribute significantly to Oman’s renewable energy grid. For instance, the Duqm Wind IPP, situated in Ras Madrakah, Duqm, is projected to generate between 234 to 270 MW upon its expected commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2027. Similarly, the Mahoot Wind I IPP, based in Al Wusta Governorate, is anticipated to produce between 342 to 400 MW upon its scheduled commencement in the same period. Such ventures underscore Oman’s commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio and reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels.
This ambitious renewable energy drive forms part of Oman’s broader strategy to elevate its renewable energy capacity to 3.84 GW by 2029. These efforts are expected to bring a greener future and also promises economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. By attracting foreign investments projected to reach approximately four and a half billion US dollars over the next five years, Oman is poised to bolster its economy while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 2.8 million tons annually. Moreover, these projects align with Oman’s overarching vision of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to responsible environmental stewardship and global climate action.
