Nasr Petroleum Company and Global Technical Services have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a feasibility study on the production of green hydrogen, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Egypt. According to the Egypt ministry, green hydrogen will be manufactured at Nasr Petroleum’s facilities in Suez, aligning with the Egyptian petroleum sector’s initiatives to implement environmentally friendly projects and promote sustainability.
Furthermore, the agreement involves identifying the necessary infrastructure for establishing a green hydrogen production facility within Nasr Petroleum, which will be utilized alongside natural gas in distillation furnaces. The green hydrogen facility will be powered by energy generated from a solar power plant currently under construction by the company, boasting a capacity of 1 megawatt.
Earlier this month, London headquartered clean energy sector company PASH Global (PASH), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Egypt represented by key Egyptian entities, to develop a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. This initiative aligns with Egypt’s visionary Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy (ISES), targeting a remarkable 42% renewable energy share by 2035.
Egypt has also launched “Egypt Solar Energy Platform” which is a collaborative effort between Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in collaboration with the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC), the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), the Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA), and the Small and Medium Solar Cells Project under the Industrial Modernization Center. Its primary objective is to bolster the contribution of renewable energy, particularly solar power, within Egypt’s energy landscape.
