Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, in partnership with Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities, has inked an agreement with the Egyptian Government. This collaboration paves the way for the development of a mammoth onshore wind farm in Egypt, poised to become one of the world’s largest. With a project value exceeding US$10 billion, it marks a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions.
The agreement grants the consortium access to a vast 3025 km2 area of land in West Suhag, facilitating essential development studies. These studies encompass resource measurement, geotechnical surveys, and environmental assessments, prioritizing minimal ecological impact.
Once operational, the wind farm will generate a staggering 47,790 GWh of clean energy annually, significantly reducing Egypt’s carbon footprint by displacing 23.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide yearly. This aligns with Egypt’s strategic objective of sourcing 42 percent of its energy from renewables by 2030, offering a sustainable alternative while cutting natural gas costs by an estimated US$5 billion per year.
The project’s significance extends beyond energy production. It promises job creation, community support initiatives, and environmental conservation efforts, delivering tangible benefits to local communities. Moreover, the wind farm underscores a collective commitment to advancing Africa’s clean energy potential and accelerating the region’s energy transition.
The signing ceremony, attended by Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker, signifies a pivotal moment in Egypt’s renewable energy journey. Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, commended Egypt’s leadership on this monumental achievement, emphasizing the project’s role in driving innovation and scaling renewable energy efforts.
Echoing this sentiment, Amr Allam, Co-CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, highlighted the project’s transformative impact on Egypt’s energy landscape and emphasized the consortium’s dedication to sustainability.
Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, expressed excitement about the project’s progression, emphasizing its multifaceted benefits for Egypt’s economy and environment. Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, reiterated the project’s significance, portraying it as a testament to the region’s potential for renewable energy adoption.
In essence, Egypt’s wind farm project signifies a bold leap towards a greener, more sustainable future, underscoring the transformative power of renewable energy on a global scale, a statement from Masdar said,
