Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd, part of Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries, has started commercial operations of the Manah II Solar Independent Power Project (IPP) in Oman. The project became operational after completing necessary tests and was launched more than four months earlier than originally planned.
Manah II has an installed capacity of 588 megawatts (MW), making it the largest solar power plant in Sembcorp’s renewable energy projects worldwide. It is also Sembcorp’s first renewable energy project built from the ground up in the Middle East.
The project operates under a 20-year agreement with Nama Power and Water Procurement Company. This agreement ensures the delivery of 500 MW of electricity. The project is part of Oman’s broader plan under Oman Vision 2040 to expand renewable energy and achieve 30% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
Manah II’s solar power system allows Oman to reduce its dependence on conventional fossil fuels and diversify its energy supply. Other renewable energy efforts in Oman include the Ibri Solar Plant, which generates 500 MW and has been supplying electricity since 2021. Additionally, Oman is working on hybrid wind and solar projects in areas such as Dhofar and Al Wusta to further expand clean energy capacity.
The completion of Manah II highlights the collaboration between private and public sectors. Nama Power and Water Procurement Company worked with Sembcorp to deliver this large-scale project. Such projects play a role in Oman’s goal to build sustainable infrastructure while addressing the growing demand for cleaner energy.
Oman continues to develop renewable energy solutions to support its national energy transition and environmental goals while advancing its efforts to integrate solar and other renewables into its long-term energy planning.
