Madkour Group has been awarded a contract to construct a grid station in Oman to support the energy evacuation from a new wind farm. This wind farm is set to be developed at Jaalan Bani Bu Ali in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate. The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), which operates the national grid, is the client for this project. This contract represents Madkour Group’s first venture into Oman’s energy infrastructure sector. The company will build a 132kV grid station linked to a wind farm that will have a capacity between 100 and 200 megawatts (MW). An overhead line of the same voltage will connect this new grid station to the Al Jawabi substation.
The Jaalan Bani Bu Ali wind farm is part of Oman’s broader strategy to enhance renewable energy generation in the country. This wind farm will contribute to Oman’s climate goals. The project is included among five Independent Power Projects (IPPs) being developed by Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP).
The other wind projects in Oman include the Duqm Wind IPP, which will have a capacity of 234 to 270 MW and is expected to start operations in Q4 2027, Mahout Wind I IPP, with a capacity of 342 to 400 MW, also scheduled for Q4 2027, Dhofar Wind II IPP, planned for a capacity of 114 to 132 MW, aiming for launch in Q2 2027, and Sadah Wind IPP, which will have a capacity of 81 to 99 MW, expected to be operational in Q4 2027.
In September, a total of 11 companies were qualified by Nama PWP to compete for these wind projects after a thorough evaluation process. The awards for these projects are expected to be announced in the first half of next year.
