In 2025, Egypt’s energy sector is set to receive a boost from LONGi, a Chinese solar energy company. The company plans to supply solar cells for energy projects with a combined capacity of 2.5 gigawatts. This project is valued at approximately $500 million. LONGi’s foray into Egypt’s renewable energy market is not its first in the Middle East. The company has already made a name for itself in the region with several achievements.
LONGi has completed the 1.2-gigawatt Noor Abu Dhabi project in the United Arab Emirates. This project, which was completed in 2019, is one of the largest solar power plants in the world. LONGi supplied over 3 million solar panels for the project. The company also supplied solar panels for the 300-megawatt Sakaka solar power plant in Saudi Arabia, which was completed in 2020. This project is the first large-scale solar power plant in Saudi Arabia.
LONGi’s plans for Egypt are part of the company’s efforts to expand its business in the region. The company is teaming up with international players in the renewable energy market, including Norway’s Scatec, the UAE’s Masdar, and AMEA Power. LONGi is targeting contracts for solar cells with capacities ranging from 2 to 2.5 gigawatts in 2025. The company will supply 1 gigawatt of solar cells to Scatec.
LONGi is exploring opportunities to contribute to smart city initiatives in Egypt. The Ras El-Hekma project, which is expected to incorporate green hydrogen solutions, is one area of interest for the company. As LONGi works to solidify its position in Egypt’s renewable energy market, its partnerships with international firms will drive growth and help shape the country’s energy sector.
