Iran has set sights on setting up solar solar parks in every province of the country. The timeline set for the goal is March 20, 2024. The ambitious announcement came from the head of Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), Mahmoud Kamani, who added that the addition of these parks is an important step by Iran to accelerate its efforts towards developing renewable energy sources.
As of now, the country of Iran boasts of a cumulative capacity of 1,070 megawatts (MW) from its renewable power plants. In addition to this, Kamani further revealed that the country is to build 110,000 solar power plants. These will come with a capacity of five kilowatts (KW) for low-income groups in 2023.
The tender for the establishment of solar power plants with a capacity of 2,200 MW will be held in 2023 itself. This tender could not reach completion last year.
Iran has set itself the gigantic goal of making additions worth 10,000 MW to its renewable power capacity. The timeline for accomplishing the goal has been set at August 2025.
