With the world’s attention set for the events at COP29, starting November 11 in Azerbaijan, it has become an important time to track the changes in the host country itself.
In line with the country’s commitment to diversify its economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Azerbaijan aims to increase its installed power capacity from renewable sources to 30% by 2030. For global inverter market leader Sungrow, that has meant an opportunity to be a part of Azerbaijan’s green transition, like the 308 MWp solar plant, which came online in 2023.
Azerbaijan’s Largest Utility-Scale PV Plant: A Milestone Achievement
Thompson Meng, Vice President of Sungrow PV & Storage BG, states, “Our efforts in Azerbaijan embody Sungrow’s commitment to providing innovative and scalable renewable energy solutions. As COP29 will take place in Azerbaijan, we are honored to support the nation’s path to a more sustainable future, perfectly aligned with global climate objectives.”
In 2023, 308 MWp plant became Azerbaijan’s first and largest utility scale solar project. The plant generates an impressive 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, providing clean energy to more than 110,000 homes.
The Azerbaijan success story mirrors Sungrow’s strong impact on the global market as well, where along with other key firms, it has led the push to deploy more renewable energy at a competitive rate, enabling many countries to transition faster. With products across 170 countries, Sungrow’s wide portfolio has helped it meet market needs everywhere, and build on its reputation for value and quality.
Supporting COP29’s Climate Ambitions
Sungrow hopes that the success of the project in Azerbaijan will encourage many of the participating delegates at COP29 to scale up their own targets and look with more optimism on the possibilities from renewable energy. 27 years since it started, Sungrow will no doubt hope to play a key role with a robust portfolio of new energy equipment encompassing “solar, wind, storage, electric vehicle and hydrogen” technologies. Having built a track record that has seen it acknowledged as the global leader for two years running now, Sungrow finds itself in that rare position where its corporate goals and global goals are perfectly aligned for the next phase of the green transition.
