The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has launched the 5th Emirates Energy Award (EEA) 2023-2025 in Amman, under the theme “Enhancing Carbon Neutrality”.
According to a Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources statement, the event aims to recognize and promote sustainability and clean energy initiatives. The award encompasses ten categories emphasizing innovation, energy efficiency, and the adoption of renewable energy sources, with a keen eye on the economic, social, and environmental impacts of energy conservation.
Under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the award seeks to raise awareness, share best practices, and attract investment and technology in clean energy, as per the local reports.
Jordan’s selection as the inaugural station for the award’s launch in the region shows its proactive stance in embracing energy efficiency and environmental protection measures. Amani Azzam, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources praised Jordan’s comprehensive regulatory framework and financial incentives, which encourage investment in sustainable energy sources. Currently, Jordan derives approximately 27% of its electricity consumption from renewable energy sources and aims to raise this figure to 31% by 2030, showcasing its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering clean energy solutions.
The United Arab Emirates Embassy commended Jordan’s dedication to environmental protection and climate change mitigation, acknowledging its transition towards a low-carbon economy. Collaborative efforts between nations, such as those between the UAE and Jordan, play a pivotal role in addressing global challenges related to climate change and sustainable development. The launch of the Emirates Energy Award in Amman marks a significant step towards promoting energy conservation, innovation, and the adoption of clean energy practices in the region. It also stresses upon the importance of international cooperation in achieving carbon neutrality and building a sustainable future for generations to come.
