The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has invited developers and consortiums to tender bids on a new wind power project located near the existing wind program in Al Sila.
Al Sila wind project is a greenfield renewable energy project. The generation capacity to be achieved from this project will be up to 140 MW AC. Upon commissioning, the plant will produce double the generating capacity in the UAE.
It would power 36,000 homes using clean electricity the wind farm would generate. It would save 190,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The project will make Abu Dhabi support its Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035, which defines the goal of having 60% renewable and clean electricity production sources in the sector.
This will bring the total wind generation capacity in the UAE to approximately 240 MW. The (Independent Power Producer) IPP model will entail development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of the wind farm.
The long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPAs) are to be signed between the developers and EWEC whereby it remains the only electricity off-taker from the project. This is to reach EOI on or before November 5, 2024 and is required to be submitted online to sila.wind.project@ewec.ae. After EWEC has studied the received EOIs, it will then issue an RFQ that will enable them to move on to the subsequent stages of the process. The RFQ will incorporate all other aspects of the project such as pre-qualification criteria and the tendering process.
