Lebanon’s Ministry of Industry’s photovoltaic system, financed by the European Union and executed in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), was officially unveiled by Minister George Bushkian, acting in a caretaker capacity. George Bushkian, presided over the ceremony and expressed his gratitude to both the European Union and UNIDO for their support and efforts in realizing the project.
Emmanuel Calenzi, the representative of UNIDO in Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria, and Alessandra Fetzer, Head of the Cooperation Department at the European Union Delegation to Lebanon, were among the distinguished guests. Also present were Director General of the Ministry Engineer Chantal Akl and officials from the Ministry, UNIDO, and the European delegation.
Representative Bushkian underscored the importance of the photovoltaic system within the Circular Project, a crucial initiative funded by the European Union. He emphasized its role in helping the Ministry navigate through Lebanon’s economic and financial challenges by reducing dependence on costly fossil fuels. Additionally, he highlighted the system’s contribution to ensuring the uninterrupted operation of vital computer servers, essential for providing services to Lebanese industries.
Moreover, Representative Bushkian emphasized the environmental benefits of the program, aligning with the Ministry’s commitment to promoting green industry and the circular economy. He expressed optimism for continued collaboration with the European Union and UNIDO on future projects aimed at enhancing the sustainability of the Lebanese industrial sector.
