Emirates airline has partnered with Etihad Clean Energy Development, a subsidiary of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), to implement a solar energy program at the Emirates Engineering Centre in Dubai.
This will involve development, engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning the solar photovoltaic facility at the Emirates Engineering Centre. About 39,960 will be installed at the facility. It is estimated that these will account for about 37% of the total annual energy consumed at this facility. When the solar facility is fully operational, it will have a total installed capacity of 23,177 kilowatts peak and expected to generate approximately 34,301,960 kilowatt-hours every year.
The agreement on the deal between Emirates and Etihad Clean Energy Development was sealed during the World Green Economy Summit 2024 held in Dubai. An agreement has been signed in the presence of other leaders, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, and Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director and CEO of DEWA.
The project will be managed and operated over the long term for operation efficiency, and Etihad Clean Energy Development will provide maintenance services for 20 years. This solar power project is one of the strings in the large set of initiatives by Emirates towards the integration of renewable sources into their operations. Other sites owned by the company within the city of Dubai also house solar panels installations, some of them including the Emirates Flight Catering facility and The Sevens Stadium.
