Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Nasser Fawzy, Director of the National Center for Planning State Land Uses, to review land allocations for electricity and renewable energy projects across Egypt. Since 2022, more than 40,000 square kilometers have been designated for renewable energy developments, including wind and solar power plants.
The allocated land includes four plots located east and west of the Nile, six plots in the regions west of Sohag and Aswan, and additional areas for major renewable energy infrastructure projects. This includes the construction of the Faris and Benban power stations, as well as a solar power plant and a new renewable energy project in the New Valley.
Fawzy also provided updates on specific renewable energy initiatives, such as wind power plants being developed west of the Gulf of Suez. This region is key for wind energy generation due to favorable wind conditions, and several wind farm projects are in progress. Additionally, a solar power plant is being built in Nagaa Hammadi, Qena.
The Benban project, which includes facilities for producing methanol and ammonia, was also highlighted during the meeting. This project is a significant part of Egypt’s renewable energy sector and is set to expand with new extensions.
The presentation also touched on the use of lands that were recently reclaimed following the removal of encroachments. These reclaimed areas are being evaluated for use in national development projects, public benefit initiatives, and the presidential initiative Decent Life, which aims to improve living conditions in rural communities.
