The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that the fifth phase of Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park had commenced operations. It is the world’s largest solar park on a single site developed as an independent power producer model. The DEWA said that operations have begun for the 200MW from the 900 MW of the 5th phase of the solar park. Saudi Arabia has approved more than 106 consulting companies and contractors to build distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for households and small companies. This move has come after the regulatory framework for renewable energy systems for self-consumption was launched last November. Kuwait is accelerating its national plans to produce no less than 15 percent of the electrical grid consumption from renewable energy sources by 2023.
