The Emirate of Sharjah oil and gas industry leader, Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC), and Emerge Limited, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, celebrated a significant milestone today with the groundbreaking ceremony for the largest solar installation in Sharjah to date. The 60MWp ground-mounted solar PV plant, located at SNOC’s Sajaa Gas Complex, will generate enough clean energy to offset 66,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to removing more than 14,600 cars from the road each year. The project supports SNOC’s commitment to decarbonization and its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2032. It will significantly decrease SNOC’s…
The renewable arm of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has finalized mega orders with a leading developer in the Middle East to build two Gigawatt scale Solar PV plants. The plants will have a cumulative capacity of 3.5 GW. The scope of the orders also includes grid interconnections encompassing pooling substations and overhead transmission lines. Detailed engineering and initial construction work are expected to commence shortly. Last month, L&T announced having won a solar-cum-storage plant order in India. Now, with the fresh mega orders from the Middle East, L&T’s renewables portfolio is poised to reach 22 GWp (Gigawatt Peak) cumulative capacity,…
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is contributing to Uzbekistan’s objective of developing up to 25 GW of solar and wind capacity by 2030. They are organizing a facility of up to US$ 229.4 million for the development, design, construction, and operation of a 500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) and a 200 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in the country’s Tashkent region. This is one of the largest EBRD-supported BESS projects in the economies where the Bank operates. The project’s technology will help ensure the safe and reliable connection of intermittent renewables to the power grid. The…
Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), one of the largest oil and gas producers in the country announced progress in the development of a string of renewable energy projects. These projects are designed to support the decarbonization of its operations in key areas of its expansive Block 6 concession. Notable is a pair of wind power projects – the first by the majority state-owned energy company – and a new solar Independent Power Project (IPP) planned in the north of its concession. The two wind energy IPPs, dubbed Riyah-1 and Riyah-2, are of around 100 MW capacity apiece, and are proposed to come…
TAQA Arabia and Voltalia have signed a framework agreement with the Egyptian government to produce green ammonia, with a total investment that could reach up to $3.40 billion. The project will be carried out in two identical phases, each featuring a 500-megawatt (MW) electrolyzer powered by over 1.30 gigawatts (GW) of solar and wind energy.Located at a greenfield site near Ain Sokhna port in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), the facility will have an annual production capacity exceeding 350,000 tonnes of hydrogen per phase.Pakinam Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia, said: “TAQA Arabia is committed to contributing to building the…
