Middle East based AMEA Power has now started the construction of a solar project in Uganda to boost the adoption of solar power in the region.
“We recently launched the construction of the 24MWp Ituka Solar PV Project located in Uganda. This project will not only be the first solar PV project in the West Nile region but also its first internationally financed renewable IPP,” it said in a statement.
Once operational, the project will produce 53,940MWh of clean energy per year, power 192,640 households and offset 26,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
“As Uganda aims to increase its non-hydro renewable electricity generating capacity, particularly from solar, this project will support the country in achieving this goal whilst delivering economic and environmental benefits for generations to come,” it added.
