Ajman Municipality and Planning Department has launched the “Zero Carbon Schools” initiative. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s ambitions for sustainability, aiming for carbon neutrality and net zero emissions by 2050.
Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of Public Health and Environment at the Department, emphasised the crucial role of nurturing a positive environmental mindset among youth. He stated that the initiative aims to engage schools in reducing their carbon footprints and striving for net zero emissions, ultimately enhancing school conditions and minimizing environmental impacts.
The initiative aims to transform schools into eco-friendly hubs by prioritizing energy efficiency and renewable energy utilization. This transition will not only decrease greenhouse gas emissions but also enhance air quality by embracing green practices. Al Hosani highlighted the importance of schools in promoting environmental sustainability through various measures, including the installation of solar panels for power generation, upgrading cooling and HVAC systems for improved energy efficiency, and fostering responsible resource usage and efficient waste management practices.
The “Zero Carbon Schools” initiative is a proactive step towards creating environmentally conscious educational institutions. By integrating sustainable practices into school infrastructure and operations, the initiative not only contributes to reducing carbon emissions but also sets a precedent for future generations to embrace eco-friendly lifestyles. Through collaborative efforts between the government, schools, and students, this initiative paves the way for a greener and more sustainable future in Ajman and beyond.
