ADNEC Group has partnered with Positive Zero to install a solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. Positive Zero is a company focused on energy transition and decarbonization. The agreement was signed during the World Future Energy Summit at ADNEC Centre.
The solar PV system will have an installed capacity of 5 megawatts peak (MWp). It will cover an area of 21,620 square metres on the roof of the ADNEC Centre. Once operational by the end of 2025, the system will meet 30% of the centre’s annual electricity needs. This is equivalent to providing electricity for 1,250 homes for a year. The project will be managed by SirajPower, the energy generation arm of Positive Zero, and will run for 15 years.
ADNEC Group has announced plans to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2045. This initiative is part of its larger strategy to integrate clean energy into its operations and reduce electricity consumption across its facilities.
Abu Dhabi has other ongoing renewable energy projects. The Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Plant, operational since 2019, has a capacity of 1.2 GW and is one of the world’s largest single-site solar plants. It produces enough electricity to power 90,000 homes.
In addition to solar energy, Abu Dhabi has explored other clean energy sources. The Al Dhafra Waste-to-Energy Plant, currently under development, will process 600,000 tonnes of waste annually, generating around 60 MW of electricity. The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant is also a major initiative, with four reactors expected to provide 5.6 GW of power once fully operational.
These projects highlight Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce emissions. Renewable energy remains a focus for achieving the UAE’s long-term sustainability goals.
