Saudi-based Acwa Power has announced the full operation of its Sirdarya Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Independent Power Project (IPP) in Uzbekistan. The plant, located in Shirin City in the Sirdarya region, has received its commercial operation certificate. This marks the transition of the project to full-scale operations.
The Sirdarya power plant has a capacity of 1,500 MW. Acwa Power holds a 51% stake in the project. The plant is designed to provide electricity to meet the growing energy needs of Uzbekistan. The facility uses combined-cycle gas turbine technology to enhance energy efficiency during power generation.
The company stated that the financial impact of the project’s operations is expected to be reflected in 2025. No additional financial details have been provided at this stage. Acwa Power is a regional utility company involved in power generation, renewable energy projects, and desalinated water production. It invests in, co-owns, and operates a variety of energy and utility infrastructure projects across several countries.
In addition to its activities in Uzbekistan, Acwa Power has also been involved in other renewable energy projects, including those in Saudi Arabia. Recently, Acwa Power announced its partnership in the Sudair Solar Plant project in Saudi Arabia, which has an installed capacity of 1,500 MW. This solar project is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to diversify its energy mix and increase renewable energy capacity.
Acwa Power continues to play a role in energy development both in the Middle East and internationally. Its portfolio includes projects in the renewable energy sector as well as traditional power generation facilities.
