Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power has entered into an agreement with Italy’s gas grid operator Snam to explore opportunities for joint investments and collaboration on developing a supply chain for green hydrogen between Saudi Arabia and Europe.
The partnership will focus on creating a system to transport green hydrogen reliably and cost-effectively, including the potential establishment of an ammonia import terminal in Italy to facilitate hydrogen delivery through the 3,300-km SoutH2 Corridor connecting Italy, Austria, and Germany.
In November 2023, ACWA Power began work on a green hydrogen project in Uzbekistan. The first phase of the project aims to produce 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
The company is also involved in green hydrogen initiatives in other countries. ACWA Power is actively working on renewable energy and hydrogen-based solutions to meet growing energy needs. The company has also announced various solar and wind projects in Saudi Arabia, including the 300 MW Sakaka PV plant and 400 MW Dumat Al Jandal wind farm.
In addition to these projects, ACWA Power is working on the world’s largest utility-scale green hydrogen facility located in NEOM, Saudi Arabia. This facility, being developed in partnership with NEOM and Air Products, will be powered entirely by renewable energy. Internationally, ACWA Power has launched a green hydrogen project in Uzbekistan. The company is also pursuing renewable energy projects in Egypt, Indonesia, and Tunisia to expand its footprint in the clean energy sector.
Through its collaboration with Snam and its renewable energy initiatives, ACWA Power continues to play a role in advancing the development of sustainable energy solutions both in Saudi Arabia and across the globe.
