Abu Dhabi’s government has unveiled a strategic alliance with HYCAP Group to establish an industrial complex dedicated to renewable energy and hydrogen-related industries within the emirate.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and HYCAP Middle East. The collaboration aims to fortify the region’s industrial capacity and solidify its position in the burgeoning renewable energy sector.
The said industrial complex will incorporate a range of facilities, including renewable energy infrastructure, an electrolysis plant, hydrogen storage facilities, and infrastructure for hydrogen transportation via tankers. Through this partnership, the goal is to evaluate and establish these critical facilities to attract industrial enterprises and foster robust value chains within the sector.
With HYCAP Middle East establishing its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi towards the end of 2023, the firm will lead the charge in developing hydrogen and clean energy-related industries in the emirate. The proposed facilities will focus on various aspects, including clean hydrogen production, methanol production, electrolyzer manufacturing, electric charging manufacturing, and fuel cell manufacturing, among others.
As per the firm, the key objective of this collaboration is to achieve a harmonious balance between local hydrogen supply and demand, with potential avenues for export sales growth in the future. Furthermore, HYCAP is actively reaching out to international industrial players specializing in the hydrogen sector, inviting them to participate in the industrial complex in Abu Dhabi, thereby fostering collaboration and innovation.
This initiative closely aligns with the UAE’s ambitious hydrogen agenda outlined in the National Hydrogen Strategy. The strategy aims to position the country as one of the top ten hydrogen producers globally by 2031, with a target annual output of 1.4 million tonnes. By leveraging strategic partnerships and investing in hydrogen-related infrastructure, Abu Dhabi is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing the adoption of clean energy technologies and contributing significantly to global sustainability endeavors.
