Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is developing a 300-kilometer crude oil pipeline connecting Jebel Dhanna to the Fujairah oil terminal. The pipeline will transport 1.5 million barrels of oil per day and will include pumping and booster stations to maintain flow.
WEG, a manufacturer of electric motors and drive systems, is supplying equipment to support the project. The company will provide flameproof electric motors, variable speed drives (VSDs), and transformers to enhance pump efficiency and safety.
The system includes 20 medium-voltage motors designed for high-temperature conditions. Nine motors operate at 3.3kV with power ratings between 850 and 990 kilowatts (kW), while eleven motors operate at 6.6kV with power ratings between 6,710 and 6,980 kW. These motors are built to function in desert environments, withstanding temperatures up to 55°C.
The WEG drive system includes arc-resistant VSDs, which improve energy efficiency and provide explosion protection. The system also features a touchscreen interface for monitoring and adjustments. WEG expects to deliver the equipment by September 2025.
While ADNOC focuses on pipeline infrastructure, Abu Dhabi continues to expand renewable energy projects. A small solar pilot program in Mussafah Industrial Zone is installing rooftop panels on warehouses and factories. The project has a total installed capacity of 20 megawatts (MW).
In Al Dhafra, a battery storage system with a 10 MW capacity is being tested. The system stores excess solar energy and releases it during peak hours. A floating solar project near the Mussafah Channel is being evaluated. The 5 MW system is placed on an artificial water body, with researchers studying its efficiency in high temperatures.
In Liwa, a small hybrid power system combines solar panels and battery storage to supply electricity to a remote community. The system has a capacity of 2 MW and reduces reliance on diesel generators.
