The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates in Oman or ‘Madayn’ has inked a contract with renewable energy company Wadi Solar under which allocation of land will be made for the development of a 100 MW capacity solar photovoltaic project. The land allocation will be made in the Suhar Industrial City.
The contract for the solar project was signed on the sidelines of 30th anniversary celebrations of Suhar Industrial City that lies in Suhar which is the capital and largest city of the Al Batinah North Governorate.
The project will be established as part of a larger strategy of Madayn under which the corporation will provide much of the energy requirements of its current tenants from renewable energy sources. This is also in line with the sustainability objectives of Madayn 2040 Vision.
The Madayn solar power project will be supplying sustainable energy solutions that will step up the economic and social environment of all investors in Suhar Industrial City. The green energy derived from the solar power project will lead to economical electricity for tenants based in Suhar Industrial City. This Madayn expects to attract new investors and heighten the competitiveness of all players operating in the industrial locations of Madayn and free zones.
Dr Saleh bin Said Masan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Madayn, said that the entity will look to add specialised industrial complexes and bring new technologies to enable fourth industrial revolution in the current facilities of the industrial locations.
Madayn says that Oman is resource rich when it comes to both solar and wind energy. In a recent move, Oman Power and Water Procurement Co. (OPWP) came up with a tender to select independent power producers (IPPs) for the development of a 500 MW solar energy park that has been named ‘Ibri III Solar IPP Project.’
Oman is also assessing the long coastal parts of Sadah in Dhofar Governorate and Ras Madrakah in Al Wusta Governorate for the development of wind farm projects to increase the green power share in the energy pie.
