Adu Dhabi based clean energy firm Masdar has partnered with UAE’s Taqa, French firm EDF Renewables, and JinkoPower from China to unveil the 2 GW Al Dhafra Solar project. This is world’s largest single-site solar power plant. The Al Dhafra Solar Project spreads across over 20 sq km in the Abu Dhabi desert. The launch comes before the UAE hosts the COP28 Conference.
The Al Dhafra Solar Project is established 35 km from Abu Dhabi City. The solar plant was constructed in a single phase. It has the potential enough electricity to supply power to nearly 200,000 homes. It can displace 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The Al Dhafra Solar PV project, in its wake, created 4,500 jobs in its peak construction phase. The significant project employs nearly 4 million solar panels. It boasts the latest technological advancements in crystalline, bifacial solar.
Masdar brought online the first solar project for the country with 10 MW capacity back in 2009.
